The Obstacle Collision Avoidance System

The Obstacle Collision Avoidance System
Vestas has acquired the technology assets of Radar Specialist OCAS including its patented Audio Visual Warning System (AVWS) used to prevent aerial collisions while significantly reducing the visual impact of wind power plants.
Using a highly sophisticated 3D radar, OCAS keeps the FAA or Transport Canada required warning lights turned off, unless an aircraft is on a dangerous path towards the obstacle.
Obstacle owners benefit from using OCAS through reduced liability, shorter permitting time, increased energy production, easier acceptance by local communities, and increased probability for project realizations.
Watch the video below to see an operational view of how OCAS works.
Every single day, Vestas wind turbines deliver clean energy that supports the global fight against climate change. Wind power from Vestas’ more than 44,500 wind turbines currently reduces carbon emissions by approximately 50 million tons of CO2 every year, while at the same time building energy security and independence. Today, Vestas operates in 66 countries, providing jobs for over 20,000 passionate people at our service and project sites, research facilities, factories and offices all over the world.
